Some notes on care of Custom Knives: My knives are made to be used, so don’t hesitate to carry them on your belt when camping, hunting, etc. But, if you do use them frequently and especially if you get them wet, you’ll want to oil the handle and case. I recommend Danish oil or salad bowl oil (especially for kitchen knives), but any finishing oil will do. Wash with water and mild soap if necessary, but oil every time you use soap on the handle.

About Mammoth Ivory: Unlike elephant ivory, mammoth ivory is legal to collect, sell, import/export, etc. However, it is rare and difficult to collect because of the remote and harsh nature of the areas where it is found. Mammoths, or mastodons, went extinct about 10,000 years ago, but their bones and tusks are commonly found in northern tundra, especially in Siberia. This ivory is from Siberia and is between 10,000 and 30,000 years old. It is not fossilized, but the actual ivory which was preserved in permafrost. Indeed, at least one complete mammoth, with hair, skin and meat intact, has been excavated in Siberia (see “Raising the Mammoth” on the Discovery Channel).

Remember, these custom knives are meant to be used, but be sure to care for them to ensure they last.
