Custom Knife Handles Artist: Custom Knife making is just one of many hobbies John has become proficient with over the years. He is a conservation biologist involved in research and conservation of tigers and other large carnivores in the Russian Far East and East Asia. He lived in the remote town of Terney, Russia, on the Sea of Japan, 1995-2007 where he directed the Siberian Tiger Project and learned the art of custom knife-making from Russian friends.
His conservation work is featured in documentary films shown on Discovery (In the Shadow of the Tiger) and Animal Planet (Tigers Fighting Back) and his writings and photos are widely published in a variety of magazines and books.
Custom knife making and woodworking are a few of his many hobbies, and most of his work includes wood, bone, or antler collected while doing field work on tigers in Russia or while wandering the wilds of Colorado and Wyoming.
